We are finally getting some much-needed rain in Talkeetna. The Kahiltna Dome (Greg, Matt & team) and the 6-day Mountaineering Course (Joe, Beth & team) groups are making use of our dry shelters for practice with knots, ropes, fixed line ascension and the like. It's about 43 degrees, so we're keeping the warm drinks going. The wild roses are in full bloom as are the columbine and other flowers. They seem to be enjoying this moisture.
We've heard from Kirby Senden today, I think Rob said they were at 11,000 feet. They did a back-carry to pick up their cache and will do a carry to Windy Corner tomorrow if the weather stays calm there. They said that it was clear there with a few clouds and some wind in Kahiltna Pass. They could see some clouds around 17,000 feet and the summit.
"The group is doing great, and are pysched. All is well."
Josh Hoeschen called in early this morning to say the group is doing well and they were already caching at 10,000 feet. Conditions must be good for them.
We also heard: Greg Collins moved up to 14,200 feet today, and Peter Anderson's group arrived at Base Camp this morning. There are 20 people in line in front of them to fly out when the weather allows. Leighan & Kim probably set up camp so they can enjoy hanging out at the Mountain House landing strip on the Ruth Glacier, waiting for their ride back to Talkeetna. We'll see who makes it back to Talkeetna first! Looking at the weather, it probably won't be soon although the sky does look a bit brighter than it did. The higher elevations are getting snow, with up to a foot expected tonight above 14,000 feet.
Time for more hot chocolate...
Pat Ormond called in from High Camp, the weather up there calls for more hot chocolate, some soup, dinner, and some reading before bed.
